Royal Wedding Souvenirs.... mmmaybe not !!!

Today I'm linking with Hey Harriet's Shadow Shot Sunday which you can visit by clicking HERE
It's well worth visiting.
I didn't actually go looking for shadows this week and only realised how quirky this one was when I came to do a completely different post. My friends and I had a club night at Mel's on Friday. We are not so much 'ladies who lunch' as 'ladies who laugh'. And there was certainly a lot of laughing on Friday night. Mel sets little challenges every month and this month's challenge was to create a tacky Royal Wedding souvenir.
Obviously, the tackier the better.
Mel excelled herself with this Catherine Middleton topsy turvy doll made from two wooden spoons. Below we have 'common Kate'. Just an ordinary girl with a penchant for fashion. You may notice the stylish chamois leather, gypsy style skirt, the curtain ring earings and the special monogrammed yellow tee-shirt.
Above, we have Princess Catherine in her wedding finery. Note the self styled carrier bag wedding dress and a the exfoliating scrunchy hair. What a lovely shadow she makes.

Elaine also got the tacky element just right with her special Royal Wedding toilet roll holder.

There's really not a lot I can say about this that Elaine did not already say in her authentication certificate that came along with her souvenir.

Perhaps now I should add a disclaimer about how I had no part in these creations and that Buy Design does not specialise in tacky souvenirs. Elaine and Mel really are incredibly talented and creative ladies. Can you just imagine what they could do if they harnessed all their talent for good...

Hats hats hats

The problem with telling your friends that you have a blog is that they tend to hide when you produce a camera. Calls of  'that better not be going on the blog' are accompanied with silly faces and (sometimes) rude gestures. Well sorry girls but it has to be done....
Here are Elaine and Mel wearing their Easter Bonnets. We were at a Legs ( League of Extraordinary Gentlewomen) get together in one of Mels holiday cottages.
Mel also modelled my crocheted bonnet. Mainly because I was the one with camera but also because I have one of those heads...... I love hats and spend ages looking for just one that actually suits. There is sure to be a hat somewhere that doesn't make me look like a muppet but I have yet to find it.
Sadly, only 3 entries to this months' competition so we were 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. I fear that had there been more entries then we wouldn't have been so lucky but it was good fun.

The evening progressed with me giving a bit of a jewellery making demonstration. This was good practice for me really as I get invited to demonstrate 2 or 3 times a year and I usually get myself into an awful fluster beforehand. Good natured heckling from my friends will surely make a civilised audience a lot less intimidating in the future. My friend Val proved herself 'a natural' at crocheting with wire. I may have found myself an assistant there.

Now here is my latest crochet project. Great fun to do and part of a bigger project, but I think I can safely show him without giving away the Top Secret project that he is part of.

He is quite a cutie I think. I still need to embroider a little mouth for him but keep putting it off as I'm not sure how to do it yet.

Sshhh

On Thursdays I like to visit kootoyoo where creative people from all over the world post links to their blogs and show a little bit of what they are up to.
There's not much that I can show this week as I have been busy with top secret projects. I really really really want to show a lovely set of jewellery that is now finished and waiting to be collected. It's really really nice and I am really really pleased with how it all turned out but it's a special order for a wedding next month. The bride is being very generous and giving all the bridesmaids and flower girls matching jewellery to wear on the big day. I was dead chuffed when she asked if I could do this for her and we spent a long time considering all the possibilities. I'm sure the girls will all be delighted with their gifts.
Now I know it's a long time till Christmas but I have also been making some things for this years' display. The window competition is very serious here in Alyth...  Last year I was knitting like mad throughout November to get everything finished so I am starting early this year. Of course, this is another Top Secret project. You never know who might be reading.
Third project of the week is ( a bit late I know ) an Easter Bonnet.. My friend Mel sets a challenge to a group of friends each month, and this month it's an Easter Bonnet. We are off to Mel's tomorrow night and no doubt she will have made little rosettes for the top 3 bonnets. No doubt she will also have the kettle on and some lovely things to eat. I'll try to get photos of all the hats tomorrow. So much better than just the one.
Have a lovely, creative day where ever you are.

Mel's Legs

Last night I was at my friend Mel's. A few months ago Mel, who owns Pondfauld Holiday Cottages, decided that she wanted to start a club. It has to be said that Mel is a little bit mad, but she reckoned that many of her friends are quite extraordinary women and that we should all meet up and share our knowledge and skills. Sounds pretty grand though it's really just a chance to get together for a chat and a bit of a giggle. Last night Elaine demonstrated the art of water-colour painting. She really is very good. Muriel decided to have a go herself while Mel and I hit the supper table, moving swiftly on to the cakes. During the course of the chocolate brownies someone came up with the idea of crafting holidays in Mel's cottages, where Mel would provide the accommodation and myself and Elaine would provide the crafts. It's something to think about and just might happen later in the year. Oh and just to explain the title: Our club is called the League of Extraordinary Gentlewomen, aka, Mel's Legs.
